Jamison Anthony Richard arrived at 3:58am on Oct. 4th, 2012. We are so thrilled to have him join our family! Mommy went for a check up at the doctor on October 3rd, and the doctor determined that she was 4cm dilated. Dr. Frankwick sent Mommy home since she wasn't contracting, with strict orders that if her contractions started up again or her water broke, she had to call immediately and get to the hospital. As soon as Mommy got home from the doctor's office, her contractions started back up again. At 2:15, she called the doctor, and was told to get to the childbirth center as quickly as possible. Daddy had taken the train to work, so he had to catch a taxi and meet Mommy at the hospital. When they got checked in, Mommy was already 5.5 cm dilated. Dr. Frankwick sat down with Mommy and Daddy, and told them that if they had said they wanted to try for a VBAC at full term, she would have been less than excited, because Jamison has been measuring large the whole pregnancy. However, she felt like Mommy's body was reacting really favorably for a VBAC, and since Jamison was only 36.5 weeks, she felt that he would be a size that Mommy might successfully VBAC. So, the decision was made to try for a regular delivery instead of a c-section as originally planned. Mommy ended up having a drug free successful VBAC!
Jamison weighed in at 7lbs 4oz, and he is 19.5 inches long. He has super blond hair that looks like it might end up being curly like Mommy's! The hospital nurses say he is the size of a full term newborn, but he is acting like a 36 weeker. He is currently in the special care nursery getting some extra monitoring since he is having trouble keeping his oxygen levels up. He has a little oxygen tube in his nose, and an IV that is running fluids to him since he isn't quite ready to nurse yet. He is also on monitors so that they can help him any time he starts to have problems. They said the most important thing is to let Jamison rest as much as possible because he needs time to "catch up". They are hoping that by either tomorrow or Saturday, Jamison will be able to room in with Mommy. Until then, they are giving him lots of tummy time with the lights turned low, so that he can rest up and grow big and strong!
